Position summary
The Nurse Unit Manager (NUM) is responsible for clinical leadership, operational oversight, and coordination of care delivery for an aged care unit of up to 33 residents. The NUM ensures compliance with all relevant aged care legislation and standards, promotes a culture of respect and dignity, supports resident choice and autonomy, and leads a multidisciplinary team in delivering high-quality, person-centered care.
This position will be contracted on a permanent part time basis, working 30 hours per week from 7:00am to 3:00pm.
Duties
- Lead and supervise the planning, implementation, and evaluation of comprehensive individualised care plans, which are developed in partnership with the resident and/or their representatives and reviewed quarterly (3-monthly), including psychotropic medication reviews.
- Manage medication rounds, ensure appropriate medication management, and oversee diabetes management.
- Ensure all complex care is assessed, appropriate interventions are in place and evaluation documented.
- Provide clinical oversight of wound care and ensure appropriate wound management strategies are in place.
- Ensure residents are referred to appropriate allied health services when required, seen in a timely manner and recommendations are followed up.
- Provide effective leadership and mentorship to registered and enrolled nurses, personal care workers, and other care staff.
Qualifications and Experience
- Current registration with the Nurses Board of Australia via the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency as a Registered Nurse.
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in aged care, with prior leadership or management experience preferred.
- Proven experience in leading teams and managing a clinical unit in aged care.
