Cultura is the newly formed organization resulting from the merger of Geelong Ethnic Communities Council and Multicultural Aged Care Services Geelong. Our mission is to provide innovative services that support and celebrate culturally diverse individuals throughout their life journey. We are committed to empowering communities and individuals to reach their full potential.
With a workforce of around 400 staff and 300 volunteers, we operate across various sites, delivering a wide range of services including residential aged care, home care, and community events. Position Overview
The Residential Baker/Chef plays a key role in our food services preparation area, responsible for baking a variety of sweets, including cakes and desserts, and preparing morning and afternoon teas for our residents. This position requires collaboration with the Cook and Manager of Hotel Services to ensure that meals meet the high standards of quality and safety expected at Cultura.
You will assist in the preparation and delivery of meals, maintain cleanliness in the kitchen, and adhere to all food safety regulations. Your contributions will help create a welcoming dining experience for our residents.
Ideal Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate will have a passion for baking and a commitment to delivering exceptional culinary services. You should possess the following qualifications and skills:
- Certificate in Pastry
- Certificate in Commercial Cooking.
- Experience in baking desserts and sweets.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Effective time management abilities.
- Basic computer skills for documentation purposes.
- Willingness to contribute positively to a team-oriented environment.
Additionally, candidates with a Food Handler Certificate, First Aid certificate, or knowledge of culturally specific culinary skills will be highly regarded. Understanding the migrant experience and sensitivity towards the needs of elderly residents from diverse backgrounds is also desirable.
Employment Conditions
The position is part-time and casual, with varying hours based on operational needs. Staff members are expected to adhere to Cultura's OHS policies and complete all mandatory training to ensure a safe working environment. Employment is subject to satisfactory background checks, including police checks and working with children checks.
