Position summary
The Residential Baker is responsible for the baking of sweets including cakes, biscuits, slices etc. and works with in Cultura’s food services preparation area. They are also responsible for the preparation and delivering of morning and afternoon tea for residents. They will assist with general hostess duties including preparation of dining rooms, clearing, cleaning and using the cook/chill process and preparing therapeutic diets. The Residential Baker is responsible to the Cook through to the Manager, Hotel Services.
This position will be contracted on a Casual basis.
Duties
- Prepare morning and afternoon tea as per list or from direction of Cook or Manager, Hotel Services.
- Prepare, plate and garnish lunch dessert as per the daily menu.
- Prepare and plate pureed fruits, yoghurts, jelly, custards and modified desserts for lunch, dinner.
- Check menu for baking allocation requirements.
- Bake cakes and desserts as requested. Additional servings to be made on Fridays.
- Check with the Cook, Manager Hotel Services and notice boards for any function desserts/ cakes that may be required.
Qualifications and Experience
Essential
- Certificate 4 in Patisserie.
- Understand and be able to initiate all required food safety regulations and Cultura’s foodsafety plan.
- Experience with baking of desserts and sweets.
- Clear verbal and written communication skills.
- Effective time management skills.
- Basic computer skills – eg, keyboard skills/data entry.
- Willingness to contribute to the maintenance of a friendly and effective food services team.
Desirable
- Hold a ‘Food Handler Certificate’.
- Certificate in Commercial cooking.
- Hold a current First Aid certificate.
- Has an understanding of the migrant experience, with empathy and sensitivity to the needs of the elderly from different cultural backgrounds.
- Culturally specific culinary skills and/or languages other than English will be highly regarded.
