General Gardening Assistant

Position summary 

The General Gardening Assistant will provide a range of gardening, grounds maintenance and general support duties across Cultura’s various locations. Working under general direction, this hands-on role will contribute to maintaining safe, tidy and well-presented outdoor spaces.

The position requires the ability to work both independently and as part of a team, while consistently following established procedures, safe work practices and workplace health and safety requirements. 

This position will be contracted on a fixed-term full time basis for 12 months.

Duties

  • Ensure all equipment is used and maintained appropriately, including hand and power tools and gardening equipment;
  • Weeding, mulching and maintenance of garden sites;
  • Tree planting and pruning;
  • Watering of plants;
  • Installing, maintaining and repairing of irrigation systems;
  • Fertilisation of plants;
  • Provide supervision and direction to volunteers assisting with gardening tasks;
  • Perform other duties as required or requested by the Supervisor.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential

  • Current Victorian Driver’s License;
  • Willingness to work as part of a team and on evenings and weekends (if required);
  • Ability to follow instructions, policies and procedures closely;
  • Willingness and ability to undertake physical work;
  • Prior gardening experience.

Desirable

  • Certificate III Parks and Gardens, or equivalent, is highly desirable
  • Construction industry white card
  • Have experience working with Aged Care and people with disabilities;
  • Understand the migrant experience, with empathy and sensitivity to the needs of the elderly and people with disabilities from different cultural backgrounds;
  • Languages other than English will be highly regarded.
